Fun Summer Activities in San Francisco

Whether you happen to be in the San Francisco Bay Area visiting Cypress Lawn Funeral Home & Memorial Park or are already one of our neighbors, here are some fun summer activities you can enjoy with family and friends.

We may be biased, but we think the beauty of our 200-acre grounds is unprecedented, making Cypress Lawn a wonderful destination for a summertime visit. There are endless opportunities here to learn about area history, art, architecture, and so much more. We always enjoy seeing adults and children wandering our rolling terrain, eating a picnic lunch by the lake, and relishing in simple pleasures like watching ducks and other wildlife. Our impeccably maintained gardens and arboretum are perfect for exploring, with trees from all over the world. Cypress Lawn has event been recognized as a Level 1-certified arboretum – quite an accomplishment!

Beyond our location high upon the California coast, there are outdoor activities galore in the Bay Area. On a nice summer day, you can walk or bike to enjoy the sights of the iconic Golden Gate Bridge. You can also take a picnic basket to Mission Dolores Park to take in the view of San Francisco’s skyline. If  island life is more your speed,  take a ferry ride over to Angel Island State Park to go camping or even just take a day trip for a relaxing hike.

Baseball is known as America’s pastime and heading to a ballpark is a beloved summer activity enjoyed by many generations. Baseball fans can catch a San Francisco Giants game at Oracle Park. The ballpark is known for its classic design and fantastic views of the water. The team even has a program that will connect you with a “host” to show you around during the game.

Music fills the air during the summer in San Francisco, thanks to a variety of festivals in the Bay Area. Two high-profile festivals include the Fillmore Jazz Festival over Fourth of July weekend and the Outside Lands Music Festival at Golden Gate Park in August. You can bring a picnic basket and blanket to attend the free Stern Grove Music Festival, held every Sunday during the summer months at Sigmund Stern Grove.
